Watford Academy goalkeeper Gabriel Ortelli has put pen to paper on a new professional contract with the club.

The 19-year-old has signed a deal which runs through to the end of the 2028/29 season, with the option of a further year.

“I’m delighted,” said the shot stopper. “I’m really happy that it’s finally done and I can’t wait for what is to come.

“I have enjoyed my time here so far and I look forward to the new opportunities ahead.

“I feel privileged and proud to be able to continue this journey and be part of this football club.”

Ortelli joined the Hornets in 2019 and first signed professional terms with the club in May last year.

The goalkeeper has played for Cyprus’ age-group teams, making his Under-21 debut earlier this year.

“I first started to play for Cyprus, in the Under-19s, a few years ago,” said Ortelli whose mother is from Kalavassos in Cyprus, his Father is of Italian descent.

“I have progressed to the Under-21s and I made my debut in March.

“It has been really good to get that international recognition and play against some top teams and players around Europe, so I want to make sure that continues.”

As a 17-year-old, the goalkeeper spent time on loan with Kings Langley, and he is now targeting further valuable experience after signing his new deal with Watford.

“After playing in the FA Youth Cup, the next challenge was to go on loan and it was nice that it was just down the road,” said Ortelli.

“That helped and now I want to push on and play more men’s senior football, whether that is on loan or here at the club.

“I’ve just come back from injury, so I want to build my fitness back up and play more games.”

Congratulations, Gabriel!
