The world-premiere production, developed with the Finborough Theatre and first staged in an acclaimed 2022 run, returns by popular demand.
Written and performed by British-Armenian artist Karine Bedrossian, Darkie Armo Girl is an OffWestEnd Award–nominated autobiographical play about surviving life with the innocence of a child — and the destructive self-abandon of a suicide bomber.
A true story.
1974. An Armenian family fleeing civil war arrive in the UK with £35, a suitcase, and the address of a relative. It’s not the first time they’ve had to escape — they’ve already fled a genocide.
1976. One careless mistake. Nine months and one near-fatal C-section later, Karen Mary Bedrossian is born into a perfectly fine life in Richmond, Surrey. But beneath the surface lies a secret pain that tears her apart every day.
1994. At 18, Karen is homeless and penniless, her only friends heroin addicts and criminals. Her solution? Start again. Become a pop star. Then everyone would love and admire her — and she’d finally feel whole.
Wouldn’t she?
