Kontides wins Gold at Portugal Grand Prix in Vilamoura
Pavlos Kontides claimed another gold medal as part of his 2026 preparations, winning the 8th Portugal Grand Prix held in Vilamoura from 27 to 30 November. It was his second consecutive training camp victory following last month’s win at the Strozanac Cup in Split.
According to a Press Release, the event was highly competitive, featuring most of the top-10 sailors from the European Championship, with 80 boats taking part. Kontides finished the regatta with 32 penalty points, ahead of Italy’s Fiamme Oro (33) and Britain’s Elliot Hanson (35).
He now continues his preparations with training camps in Lanzarote through February, before heading to Palma de Mallorca for the 2026 season opener, the Trofeo Princesa Sofia. Further events include World Cup Hyères, the European Championship in Split, the World Championship in Ireland, and a summer preparation block in Los Angeles ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games.
