UK Cypriot Optician Garry Kousoulou Brings “Healthy Eyes Save Lives” to a Global Audience of Millions
Garry Kousoulou, a proud Greek Cypriot optician, has confirmed his return to the London New Year’s Day Parade, delivering one of the most powerful public-health messages on the global stage: “Healthy Eyes Save Lives.”
The New Year’s Day Parade is watched by over 3 million people worldwide, attended by more than 1 million spectators in London, and—celebrating its 20th anniversary this year—broadcast to an estimated 300 countries. Few events offer this level of international visibility.
As a Greek Cypriot healthcare professional, Garry is using this moment to shine a spotlight not only on eye health, but also on the Cypriot community’s contribution to healthcare, entrepreneurship, and public service around the world.
This year, Garry is calling on 20 eye care professionals to join him in the parade, carrying Snellen eye charts in multiple languages and Ishihara colour vision charts, symbolising inclusion, early detection, and the life-saving power of accessible eye care.

Garry is actively encouraging Greek Cypriot opticians, healthcare professionals, and business owners—from the UK, Cyprus, and the global diaspora—to get involved.
