The famously tasty southeast London chippy that is one of the top 10 fish and chip takeaways in Britain for 2026
Brockley’s Rock owned by UK Cypriot brothers Kyri and Sotiris , having reached the final of the 2026 National Fish and Chip Awards
Sotiris and Kyriaco Karoulla are from Lysi in Cyprus and have had the Brockley Rock Fish and Chip shop since 2011.
Last year they won the National Fish & Chip Awards 2025: Winner of the Community Engagement Award.
Good Food Awards: Received the Gold Seal for 2025/26, highlighting consistent quality for three years running.
2026 National Fish & Chip Awards: Named in the top 10 fish and chip takeaways in the UK.
Top 40 Recognition: Consistently recognized in the Top 40 and Top 20 for Takeaway of the Year.
The shortlist of the best fish and chip takeaways in Britain for 2026 has chipped away even further, and a neighbourhood favourite in southeast London remains in the top 10.
Only two establishments from London were included in the original 20-strong list of best fish and chip shops in the UK. This might not be surprising as standards for a proper battered cod and chunky chips are not what you’d expect in the capital. But Stone Fish and Chips in Acton and Brockley’s Rock in, well, Brockley, were nominated as the best of the bunch.
In a huge boost for southeast Londoners, Brockley’s Rock blew the competition out the water last month to take the top plaice as the best chippy in the capital. Now the shortlist has been halved again, but the SE4 takeaway has held its position. In the new year, the crisp contender will battle it out against nine other businesses in north of England, Scotland and southern England to see who is the best in the nation.
Since 2014, the Brockley Road staple has been admired by local residents for its golden crisp fish, perfectly salted chips and sustainable menu, as well as its vegan and gluten-free options. Prices are reasonable too. A battered cod costs £10.30, and regular chips are £3.60.
As the competition heats up, Brockley’s Rock will face a surprise visit by an industry expert as well as answer questions in an interview with a panel of judges. The National Fish and Chip Awards analyses everything from flavour and freshness to customer service, meaning Brockley’s Rock is officially more than just a good local chippy.
Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers, said: ‘Fish and chips is a national treasure, and the skill, passion, resilience and desire to serve communities with the best food shown by the takeaways we’ve announced today is a great representation of what makes our industry so special. We can’t wait to reveal the winner in a few months’ time.’
Last year’s winner, Yarm Road Fish & Chips in Darlington, will hand over the coveted trophy to the new champion of the sea on February 25 2026 at a ceremony at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge.
