The Yianis Christodoulou Foundation, founded by John Christodoulou, has proceeded with the acquisition of a property in a key location in Nicosia, opposite The Landmark Nicosia on Limassol Avenue, which is intended to become yet another project dedicated to the people of Cyprus, with long-term benefit.
This initiative reflects John Christodoulou’s philanthropic vision and serves a clear social purpose, as it is not a profit-driven project, but a long-term investment in society. The project will be designed in a way that ensures its sustainability, with particular emphasis on the younger generation, families, education, innovation and social wellbeing.
Based on John Christodoulou’s vision, the aim is to create a vibrant and sustainable hub for social activity and innovation. The project is expected to include a wide range of uses, such as co-working spaces, support structures for start-ups, makers’ spaces, educational programmes, workshops for young people, as well as support for social entrepreneurship. At the same time, the creation of meeting rooms, screening areas and sports facilities is also being considered.
Spaces oriented towards the needs of families are also envisaged, as well as a market hall café. The wider vision also includes a landscaped green area on the top floor and, subject to the final approvals being obtained, John Christodoulou’s aspiration to create a small church there, adding a broader social dimension to the project. It is noted that an earlier planning permission for the site provided for 11 floors.
With the aim of safeguarding both the social character and the financial sustainability of the project, part of the space will be offered under different pricing models, including minimal or low-cost arrangements, as well as on market terms, depending on the intended use.
The Yianis Christodoulou Foundation also intends to give an active role to the younger generation, inviting them to participate in an ideas competition on what they would like the project to include, for the benefit of society.
The idea for the acquisition of the property came from Pambos Panayiotou, a close friend of John Christodoulou and CEO of KEO, who identified the property as a unique opportunity.
Cypriot philanthropist John Christodoulou has, through the Yianis Christodoulou Foundation, supported more than 100 charitable and social initiatives to date. This new project marks an important milestone in the Foundation’s ten years of giving and further reinforces its long-term commitment to creating lasting value for Cyprus and its people.
